How to use nano DAP in Bengal gram crop?

Nano DAP is a new fertilizer option that many farmers are starting to use to improve crop nutrition in a more efficient way. In Bengal gram (chickpea) cultivation, proper nutrient management is very important because the crop depends on balanced nutrition for good root growth, flowering, and pod formation. Using nano DAP correctly can help farmers improve yield while reducing fertilizer wastage and cost.

Bengal gram is a pulse crop and has the ability to fix nitrogen from the air through root nodules. Because of this, it does not need heavy nitrogen fertilization. However, phosphorus is very important for Bengal gram, especially during early growth stages. Phosphorus helps in strong root development, better nodulation, early flowering, and higher pod setting. Nano DAP mainly supplies phosphorus along with a small amount of nitrogen in a highly efficient form.

Nano DAP is usually applied as a foliar spray, not as a soil fertilizer. It should be used as a supplement to regular soil fertilization, not as a full replacement in most cases. Farmers should first follow normal basal fertilizer practices like applying organic manure and required phosphorus through soil if recommended for their area. Nano DAP then helps meet crop demand during critical stages.

The right time to spray nano DAP in Bengal gram is very important. The first spray is usually done around 20 to 25 days after sowing, when the crop is in the early vegetative stage. At this time, the plant is developing roots and nodules, and phosphorus demand is high. Spraying nano DAP at this stage supports better root growth and plant strength.

The second spray can be done at the flowering stage, usually around 40 to 45 days after sowing. This stage is critical because moisture or nutrient stress can lead to flower drop. Nano DAP spray during flowering helps improve flower retention and supports pod formation.

Nano DAP should always be sprayed at the recommended dose. Using higher concentration does not give extra benefit and may stress the plant. The solution should be prepared using clean water, and the spray tank should be clean. The spray should be done during early morning or late evening hours when temperature is low and leaves can absorb nutrients better.

Spraying during hot midday hours should be avoided because it can reduce effectiveness and may cause leaf scorch. After spraying, at least a few hours without rain or irrigation helps the nutrient get absorbed properly.

Farmers should also ensure that the crop is not under severe moisture stress at the time of spraying. Light irrigation a day before spray, if needed, helps improve nutrient uptake. Nano DAP works best when plants are healthy and actively growing.

It is important to remember that nano DAP is not a pesticide or growth hormone. It is a nutrient source and works gradually by improving plant nutrition. Visible results may not appear immediately, but plants become healthier over time.

In conclusion, nano DAP can be effectively used in Bengal gram through foliar spraying at early growth and flowering stages. When used at the right time, in the right dose, and along with good crop management practices, nano DAP helps improve plant growth, pod setting, and overall yield while reducing fertilizer losses.
