Finding a reliable source of good quality mushroom spawn is essential for successful mushroom cultivation. In India, one of the main institutions known for mushroom research and spawn production is the ICAR-Directorate of Mushroom Research (DMR) located in Solan, Himachal Pradesh. Many farmers and agriculture professionals contact DMR to get certified spawn, technical advice, and training on mushroom cultivation.
The Directorate of Mushroom Research at Solan is a national research centre dedicated to mushroom farming technology, quality spawn production, and training. Because Solan is known as the “Mushroom City of India,” many growers prefer to contact DMR directly when they need spawn or expert guidance.
If you want to get mushroom spawn or know more about spawn availability and prices, you can contact DMR Solan directly. The general contact numbers for the Directorate are:
Phone: 01792-230767
Phone: 01792-230541
Director’s Office: 01792-230451
These numbers connect you to the main office where you can inquire about spawn supply, how to collect it, and the dates when spawn is available for growers to collect. DMR sometimes sells master spawn and other types of spawn, and they also provide short training and practical advice on mushroom cultivation.
When you call, it’s helpful to mention that you are interested in mushroom spawn so that officials can direct your call to the right person or department. Many mushroom farmers also visit the DMR campus in person to collect spawn because very often spawn is handed out directly and not sent by post, as mushroom spawn can spoil during transport if not handled carefully.
The DMR contact numbers also allow you to ask about the spawn collection schedule, pricing, and documentation needed. In addition to spawn, you can speak with experts about best practices in mushroom cultivation, compost preparation, pest management, and other support services offered by the institute.
Sometimes DMR staff or designated scientists manage different aspects of mushroom cultivation, such as crop management, spawn production and value addition. Although the main contact numbers are common, when you reach the office you can ask for the right person or extension that handles spawn supply.
In some cases, there may also be toll-free numbers or farmer helplines provided by agricultural departments that can help you connect to DMR Solan officials. These services are especially helpful when you need assistance but cannot travel to Solan personally. Calling the main number during office hours ensures you get up-to-date information directly from the source.
Before visiting or calling, it is good practice to write down your questions — such as what type of spawn you need (button, oyster, milky, etc.), how much quantity you require, and when you plan to start cultivation. This helps the DMR staff give you specific guidance and avoid confusion.
In summary, when you need mushroom spawn or technical support for mushroom farming, ICAR-DMR Solan is one of the best places to contact. You can reach the office at 01792-230767, 01792-230541, or 01792-230451 to get information on spawn availability, cultivation advice, and other services to support your mushroom business.
