Improving barren land?

Title: Revitalizing Barren Land: A Path Towards Environmental Restoration Introduction:

What is bele parihara?

Bele Parihara is a compensation system provided by the Government of Karnataka to support farmers who suffer crop loss due to natural disasters. The word “Bele” means crop, and “Parihara” means relief or compensation. Through this scheme, farmers receive financial assistance when their crops are damaged because of drought, floods, heavy rain, hailstorms, pest attack, or other unexpected events. The main purpose of Bele Parihara is to reduce the financial burden on farmers and help them recover quickly so they can continue farming in the next season.

Many farmers in Karnataka depend heavily on rainfall. When the monsoon fails or when there is excessive rain, crops get affected easily. This leads to reduced yield and income loss. Bele Parihara helps farmers in such situations by giving them monetary support based on the extent of crop damage. The relief amount is calculated as per government guidelines and is directly transferred to the farmer’s bank account.

Farmers do not need to apply separately every time a disaster occurs. The process largely works through the Crop Survey (Bhoomi system) and land records linked with Aadhaar. Whenever crop damage is reported in a village, the local officials—such as village accountants, agriculture officers, and revenue department staff—conduct a survey to estimate the extent of loss. Damage must generally be more than 33% for the farmer to be eligible for assistance.

Bele Parihara is provided under the State Disaster Relief Fund (SDRF) or the National Disaster Relief Fund (NDRF) depending on the type and severity of the disaster. The government identifies affected villages and releases compensation accordingly. Farmers receive the relief amount through DBT (Direct Benefit Transfer), ensuring the money reaches them safely without middlemen.

The compensation amount may vary depending on the crop type—such as cereals, pulses, vegetables, fruits, commercial crops, and plantation crops. For example, the relief amount for paddy or maize might be different from that for sugarcane, horticulture crops, or arecanut. The aim is to provide at least partial financial support so farmers can purchase seeds, fertilizers, and other inputs for the next season.

Farmers can check whether they are eligible for Bele Parihara by visiting the official Karnataka “Parihara” website or by contacting their local agriculture office. They can track payment status using their mobile number or Aadhaar number. Information is also published at gram panchayat offices to ensure transparency.

The government has introduced digital tools like Fasal Dharani, Parihara Portal, and Crop Survey App to make the process faster and more accurate. These systems help record crop details, land ownership, GPS-based crop mapping, and real-time updates.

In simple words, Bele Parihara is a crop compensation scheme that helps Karnataka farmers overcome losses caused by natural disasters. It provides direct financial relief, allows farmers to recover from sudden setbacks, and ensures they can continue farming without falling into debt. By offering timely support, Bele Parihara plays an important role in protecting farmer livelihoods and strengthening agricultural stability in the state.
