What is the PM-KISAN registration process?

PM-KISAN (Pradhan Mantri Kisan Samman Nidhi) is a central government scheme that provides financial support to farmers across India. Under this scheme, eligible farmers receive ₹6,000 per year, released in three instalments of ₹2,000 each. The money is directly transferred to the farmer’s bank account. To receive these benefits, farmers must complete the PM-KISAN registration process correctly. Understanding the steps clearly helps avoid delays and ensures the farmer starts receiving instalments without any issues.

The registration process is simple and can be done both online and offline. Farmers who have land in their name and belong to eligible categories can apply. The first step is collecting the required documents. These include the Aadhaar card, bank passbook, land ownership record (such as RTC, Khata, or pahani), and a valid mobile number. These documents help verify the farmer’s identity and land details.

For online registration, the farmer must visit the official PM-KISAN website. After opening the site, they need to click on “New Farmer Registration.” The portal asks for the Aadhaar number, mobile number, and state details. Once these are entered, the website displays a form where the farmer must fill in personal information, bank details, and land details. It is important to enter the bank account number and IFSC code correctly because the instalment will come directly into this account. After completing the form, the farmer must submit it and note the registration number for future tracking.

During registration, the Aadhaar number plays an important role. The government uses Aadhaar to confirm identity and avoid duplicate entries. If there is any mismatch in the Aadhaar details—such as name spelling, date of birth, or gender—the application may get delayed. Therefore, checking Aadhaar details beforehand is helpful.

If the farmer prefers offline registration, they can visit the nearest Agriculture Department office, Gram Panchayat, Common Service Centre (CSC), or PM-KISAN help centre. The staff will help fill out the form and upload the required documents. CSC centres may charge a small service fee. After registration, the farmer receives an acknowledgement slip or reference ID, which can be used to check application status.

Once registration is completed, the application goes through a verification process. First, the village-level officials verify the land record to ensure the applicant is an eligible landholding farmer. Then, the details are matched with the Aadhaar and bank databases. This verification may take a few days to weeks depending on the location. After approval, the farmer’s name appears on the PM-KISAN beneficiary list, and instalments start getting credited into the bank account.

Farmers can track their application status on the PM-KISAN website by entering their Aadhaar number or mobile number. If there are any corrections needed—like updating bank details or fixing Aadhaar errors—they can use the “Edit Aadhaar Details” or “Update Self-Registered Farmer” options on the portal.

In simple words, PM-KISAN registration requires submitting Aadhaar, bank details, and land documents either online or at a CSC or agriculture office. After verification, eligible farmers start receiving the yearly ₹6,000 support directly into their bank accounts. With accurate documents and proper registration, the process becomes smooth and quick.
