The Centre of Continuing and Adult Education and Extension (CCAEE), Aligarh Muslim University (AMU), in collaboration with the Department of Horticulture and Fruit Preservation, District Aligarh, Government of Uttar Pradesh, organized a week-long workshop on Fruit Preservation.
The workshop aimed to promote self-employment and skill development through hands-on training in food preservation techniques. Mr. Shyam Sundar, the resource person, delivered an insightful lecture on various aspects related to self-help groups and the role of small-scale industries in fostering economic independence.
During the practical sessions, participants prepared a variety of products including lemon squash, mixed fruit jam, lemon pickle, and tomato ketchup. An evaluation session followed, in which 50 students appeared for and successfully completed the practical examination.
Director of the Centre, Dr. Shamim Akhtar, highlighted the importance of forming self-help groups for sustainable livelihoods. Citing the example of Lijjat Papad, he illustrated how small community initiatives can grow into successful enterprises.
To showcase the participants’ work, the Centre will organize a sale exhibition on Thursday, November 13, 2025, at its premises in AMU.
